Founded in 1975, the Hanaholmen Cultural Centre has been promoting bilateral relations and cooperation between Finland and Sweden for five decades. Reflecting societal evolution in both countries, it serves as an important Nordic meeting place, fostering dialogue in the fields of arts, culture, politics and society.
Designed by architect Veikko Malmio, the building is a synthesis of the signature characteristics of Finnish architecture and interior design in the 1970s. With its collection of over 300 artworks, the Hanaholmen Cultural Centre is also a major exhibitor of Finnish and Swedish contemporary art.

This study takes the reader on a fascinating journey through a half century of Hanaholmen's history. It casts its gaze over the centre's major milestones, as well as the cultural and political luminaries who have shaped and steered its bilateral mission.
